First 100 percent electric vehicle drives into Somerville

Only 250 smart fortwo electric drive vehicles will be available nationwide to the public this year. Somerville — As gas prices creep up, Herb Chambers is offering customers a chance to lease a brand new 100 percent electric vehicle. On Monday, Feb. 28, New England’s largest automotive dealer presented to its first customer the newest smart fortwo model, the electric drive passion coupe, at the Somerville smart center location at 259 McGrath Highway. The smart fortwo electric drive is a zero-emissions vehicle representing the ultimate in green technology. Herb Chambers to raffle Iacocca Mustang for Joslin Diabetes

Not so many know both men's lives have been affected deeply by diabetes. The disease claimed Iacocca's wife Mary in 1983 and was a major factor in his establishing the Iacocca Family Foundation for diabetes research. Chambers deals daily with Type 1 diabetes, even as he runs his 47 dealerships. When they have lunch together as they did over the July 4 holiday, something is bound to happen.
